My XP pc gives me an error about explorer.exe when I click on an avi file, not to watch it but to just click on one to move it etc. Saying that its not all AVI files its just some of them?

Also now when I turn my PC on i get a message about WINNT.exe and I can either send a report or not. The pc is running SP2 and all updates are installed. Nothing new has been installed prior to these errors.

I had exactly the same problem last year, it actually ended up being a virus. I just ripped the HDD out and hooked it up as a slave drive on a spare PC and it detected the virus (Zone Alarm Internet Security was the Anti Virus I was using) and when I plugged it back in, it worked perfectly. The funny thing is that I was running exactly the same scan on the PC and it never detected the virus.

I'd get Avast Free and CCleaner for starters. CCleaner's incredibly fast at cleaning up unwanted stuff. Avast's an excellent free anti-virus kit, updates itself twice a day (usually when you're getting a clean recording of your latest track, just so you get 'AVAST DATABASE HAS BEEN UPDATED!!' in the middle of it. Just call it a sound-sample, you'll get away with it...)

There's also a site called Major Geeks, they've got loads of free virus removal downloads there. It's a highly reliable site, trust it. They're good people there.
